Why PC Gaming Is Growing

May 9th, 2008 at 20:47 under Articles, Gaming with 1 Comment » .

Contrary to everyone else clamoring about the death of PC gaming, I’m going to write quite the opposite. How can I confidently make such a statement? Well simply, I have faith in the casual gamer sitting in the office cubicle. Some offices might have a console in the break room, but every office is almost guaranteed to have a PC that is connected to the Internet. Through this portal many options are available to the casual gamer.

Heading Back Home

May 7th, 2008 at 22:54 under Personal with No Comments » .

I’m almost done out here in California, tomorrow I head home back to Georgia. I’ve had a blast out here in California however I’m ready to be home as I’m getting the jitters. There is so much sitting at home waiting to be benched, I cannot wait. When I get home I should finish out the HD3850 testing, ran out of dry ice last time, and this time around I’ll have some wicked Corsair memory to push the processor to new heights. Later next week I’ll be starting some Gigabyte 8800GT benching and once again utilizing Corsair Dominators, suffice to say I’ll be setting some blistering records. I’ve been on the road for nearly 2 weeks and I have a ton of images and video to post, expect a torrent of information to spew from this site very soon.

Vacation!

April 28th, 2008 at 04:53 under Personal with No Comments » .

Hello all. As per the norm, when my posts become sporadic and random it usually means something big is on the horizon. That is true five times over in this instance. I’m currently on a hobby related vacation after which I’ll be on a vacation related vacation and then I’ll jetting back home to finish blowing up some hardware. I’ve got two great post ideas cooking in my head so hopefully I’ll have the time to put the figurative pen to the paper before I lose them. I hope you are all doing well in your respective duties, now it’s time for me to take another 45 minute long shower.

Intel Spring 2008 Price Cuts

April 22nd, 2008 at 00:15 under News with No Comments » .

Intel is slashing prices once again as older products slide into lower performance brackets. The big hit with this round of cuts is the Q6700 quad-core processor. The Q6700 dropped from $530 to $266 while the Q6600 dropped from $266 to $224. While the Q6700 has become a piece of “old” technology, these older 65nm chips still have some kick left in them with the most recent batches hitting 3.8GHz to 4.1GHz on air cooling. Keeping in mind that the 45nm quad-core processors are both expensive, multiplier limited, and have low FSB walls, the Q6700 might be the chip of choice for budget-minded consumers. You’ll be hard pressed to get the $283 Q9300 up to 4GHz whereas the Q6700 should hit 4GHz with ease and scale to 5GHz under extreme cooling.

Project Nissan 240SX: Day 5

April 18th, 2008 at 23:23 under Personal, Project 240SX with 3 Comments » .

Sorry about the lack of updates, I’ve been busy with a slew of things. I have made some serious progress both with Project 240SX and with benching. For the last few days I’ve been prepping the car for the engine to be pulled. There’s so many little things that have been holding me up that haven’t been post-worthy but tomorrow I should have some nice pictures.

Project Nissan 240SX: Day 4

April 14th, 2008 at 20:56 under Personal, Project 240SX with 2 Comments » .

I didn’t get much done today as I was busy taking care of my non-240SX life. Managed to log about 2 hours of work today though and really cleared up a lot of the engine-bay in preparation for hauling the motor out. I’m still in the process of searching for a donor engine, decided to get the KA24DE as I figure if I’ve got to rip the engine and transmission out I might as well toss in a DOHC engine while I’m at it.

Microsoft DreamSpark

April 14th, 2008 at 17:22 under Articles, News, Software with 1 Comment » .

I came across this link earlier today and thought it would be very useful for my target audience. Microsoft is essentially extending what is their older Microsoft Development Network Academic Alliance (MSDNAA) to all college students across the globe. Unlike MSDNAA though, DreamSpark is limited to software development tools whereas MSDNAA gave you access to a variety of operating systems and development tools. Even with these limitations though DreamSpark is a fantastic foot forward for Microsoft in both publicity and attracting the brightest minds in the industry.

Dry Ice Benching and HD3850 Domination

April 14th, 2008 at 01:26 under Articles, Hardware, Overclocking with 2 Comments » .

I’ve been so busy the last few days that I forgot to post these results. On Friday I took a few hours out of my day to do some dry ice benching with my current bench setup and I took a few world records for my video card. The records that I snagged aren’t something to write home in regards to overall performance but for the card itself they are rather impressive. To be honest though, these are just preliminary results, expect some smashing results sometime in late April.
