Nvidia releases 90nm chips
03.09.06 - 08:09am
Today Nvidia hard launched their 7900 and 7600 series cards featuring a die shrink from 110nm to 90nm. For those that don’t know, this means the cards will consume less power, run faster, and cost less, all a plus for the consumer. Three cards were released today based on the G71 and G73 cores. The G71 core is featured on the 7600 GT which fills in the middle performance gap in Nvidia lineup, and the G73 core is featured in the 7900 GT and GTX. Here are some quick figures on these three new cards along with the ATi x1900XT and XTX.
7900GTX Size:196mm^2 Price:500$
7900GT Size:196mm^2 Price:325$
7800GTX Size:334mm^2 Price:450$
7800GT Size:334mm^2 Price:300$
7600GT Size:125mm^2 Price:200$

This just shows the difference in sizes of the various cores and the comparable prices. For the entire article from Anandtech click here. For another review by HardOCP, click here. With this new round of video cards, Nvidia has leveled the playing field and brought some very good deals to the table. While the 7900GTX would be a nice card to have, the real winner here is the 7900GT. This card offers 7800GTX performance for 7800GT prices, with plenty of overhead for overclocking. Nvidia has hard launched these cards, no vaporware here, so they are showing up in the inventories of most online vendors, so take your pick and grab yourself a new toy. Will update in a few weeks with overclocking information.
