Nvidia launches 64x FSAA
08.01.06 - 04:28pm
Nvidia has just performed a huge jump in graphical computation with the release of their Quadro Plex VCS (Visual Computing System) for workstations. In short this box will let your workstation create ultra-high resolution images and video while performing up to 64x FSAA (Full Screen Anti-Aliasing). In the computer generated image industry the more anti-aliasing performed on an image the more realistic the image will be due to a reduction in the number of sharp and unnatural “jaggies” displayed to the screen. Here is a good link to further explain anti-aliasing. The Quadro Plex VCS will help assist designers, manufacturers, and visual artists by giving them the ability to manipulate very large models in 3D space.
Normally I don’t get worked up over stuff but when I saw SLI being used in a professional package I found it to be rather cool. Speaking of cool, Nvidia must have found some way to keep this beast chilly as they are touting a maximum sound production of only 40 dB. One last interesting feature is the ability to fit two of these side by side in a 19″ wide rack while maintaining a 3U height. This box definitely has a lot of firepower for the industries that require such products. In regards to us normal consumers, professional adoption of SLI is just another step it making it a “standard” feature which is mixed news for some.
