Lean Machine 2006 Part 1

Saturday, September 30th, 2006

Some of you guys might be readers of Maximium PC or have atleast heard about the crazy monster of a computer they build every year, the Dream Machine. For those of you that aren’t accustomed to computer customization the Dream Machine includes only bleeding edge technology with no regards to price, hence the appropriate name Dream Machine. This September I was the specifications for the 2006 Dream Machine and then I had this brilliant idea, why not build a Dream Machine for myself?

7 Tunes

Friday, September 29th, 2006

Earlier today I was tagged by Devin Reams with this interesting meme. Originally I was going to show 7 random songs but then I discovered some songs in my library I’d rather forget I owned. With that said I decided to pick the top 7 songs from my Top 25 within iTunes as this is what you would hear me jamming to.

How Important is Your Internet Connection?

Monday, September 25th, 2006

In an unfortunate series of events last night my connection to the digital world was severed when the sky decided to fall upon Atlanta. Atlanta is known for its torrential downpours and yesterday was just another day another storm. What I didn’t know at the time was that when the storm moved along to hammer South Carolina it also took my Internet connection with it or more specifically destroyed the cable box outside my apartment. So there I am, 9pm on a Sunday, Physics 2 test in 12 hours, all my practice tests are online, what do I do? The same thing every other Internet dependent Tech student does, fixes himself a drink and sighs in recognition of a long night ahead.

ExtremeTech Reviews the ReadyBoost feature of Vista

Wednesday, September 20th, 2006

Back in the day (2 months ago?) I did a brief review of Windows Vista and I quickly touched base with a new feature, ReadyBoost. With all operating systems the computer occasionally needs to store more temporary data than the system memory can hold. (more…)

Apple to Update Mobile Line Before Holidays

Tuesday, September 19th, 2006

In the past Apple always lagged behind the PC community due to its reliance upon IBM and the PowerPC processor. When Apple jumped ship from IBM to Intel it lost any excuses in regards to hardware release delays and it looks like Apple will have no need to make excuses with the recent refresh to the iMac line and the upcoming redesign to its mobile line of computers.

Police, Road Atlanta, Super Clocks

Sunday, September 17th, 2006

Once again I had the chance of heading out to Road Atlanta and drowning myself in high octane fumes and the sweet sounds of angry V8’s. Of all the things I love in life I believe high power sports cars take the cake easily beating out overclocking and paintball. (more…)

Microsoft Releases the Zune

Thursday, September 14th, 2006

I’ve ignored the Zune over the last couple of months but I figured with it officially launching it deserves atleast a little bit of recognition. Microsoft has been rather tight lipped about this project which is rather surprising. Yesterday, Microsoft released some press material which included a specifications sheet and the pictures that you see below. When initially looking at the design I was a bit thrown off, the top half of the unit looks great but then you get down to the interface and I did a double take. The interface is just straight up ugly. Aesthetically the bottom half just clashes hard with the top half and was a huge turnoff for me. Here are a few pictures just to illustrate what I mean.

Codename Max, Beautiful RSS for All

Monday, September 11th, 2006

With the name Codename Max I thought this was going to be a video game or something like that but I couldn’t have been further from the truth. My roommate Paul Stamatiou linked me to a new project launched by Microsoft that tries to target the online social community with an integrated RSS reader and picture sharing software. Lately Microsoft’s programs have been rather attractive and useful programs so I decided to download the 54 megabyte download and give it a try.
