A Taste of the Future

I just thought it would be nice to show you guys a little teaser before I finish up the Lean Machine. Fedex delivered right on time and all is well, I’ve just been very busy testing the limits of this system while balancing my precarious load from school. Here’s a few pictures, there was a large amount of pictures and video shot which made for a well documented build.

I swear the processor is just taunting me, we will see how far I can stretch it out. I should have all the benchmarks done within 24 hours along with some nice video.

Those new Duos are irksome to install. There’s no satisfying “click-kachunk” when you get the CPU in the slot exactly right. It just kind of hovers a millimeter or so above the slot taunting you until you finally just push the cover cage down. Scary. I’m never going to want to install one of those again.

Also… don’t you just love how the CPU instructions don’t tell you to turn the knobs on the legs of the heatsink? I didn’t realize it until going over the motherboard installation info.

I myself don’t like the LGA775 socket as much as AMDs s939 as it is a little more difficult to completely insulate. While this is a problem that most people won’t have to deal with, I myself and looking at the board and scratching my head.

The stock Intel heatsink securing mechanism is absolutely terrible when installing however it has been performing rather well as a substitute until I insulate the board. Installation can be a pain in the butt however the ability to easily remove it w/o removing the board is rather nice.

I finished up the stock clock benchmarks tonight and tomorrow night I’ll finish up the air-cooling overclocked benchmarks and hopefully start on the phase-cooling benchmarks, lots of pretty graphs and information to come soon.

I can’t wait until this is finished!

October is almost over. Can I expect to see a new, better design in November?
