Happy New Years
12.30.06 - 08:14pm
I should have announced a few days back that I was on a sort of holiday vacation but I am hoping that you guys caught on after I stopped writing a week back or more. I’ve spent the time making a list of new ideas along with hacking together a new design so 2007 should be exciting. Since 2006 is about to become part of the past I just thought I’d pay my respects and show a few highlights of what 2006 meant to me. Yeah this isn’t Tech news, a product review, or even remotely on topic for this place but I’m on vacation.
2006, You were a lovely year
Oh what a year you were, you and I started out while I was in Augusta celebrating your start, I believe at the time I was slowly digesting a steak or something similar so the year started off really well. Sadly the first event that I remember of importance would be the start of this website in Febuary. The idea was kicked around for a few days and then it’s first iteration was put forth, hosted of Paul Stamatiou’s empty (mt) server. From there the website quickly progressed and Digg was abused multiple times and I enjoyed times of what I originally considered to be immense prosperity. The summer came with the departure of my girlfriend for Thailand so those were sad times but they picked up with my new relationship with ASO(A Small Orange). Tim over at ASO took care of me and gave this website a new home so times were great. The Core 2 Duo architecture was also hitting critical mass and there were even rumors of a monster quad-core processor before 2006 was done (which happened and it was amazing).
Towards the end of summer I dabbled a little bit with watercooling and found it to be pleasurable but it certainly lacked the edge that came with phase change. During these times I also began finishing the paperwork for my new apartment out in downtown Atlanta that I’d share with Paul Stamatiou and David. Those were frustrating times with our leasing agent promising us one thing and delivering another. Once the dust had settled we were in a temporary apartment but Fall had come and with it came Football Season! How I love myself some football and the Yellow Jackets were looking pretty good. While Reggie Ball didn’t have an accurate arm we did have Calvin Johnson with help from Tashard Choice, James Johnson, Rashaun Grant, and a stellar defense. The season didn’t end up so well but it was a hell of a lot of fun.
In the middle of Fall I pieced together the Lean Machine and what a machine it was and still is. I had some very high hopes for the system and it has delivered but I think I have pushed it to the edge. Not much left in the system but I’m going to push every single Mhz out of the thing till I am certain. I’ve got a few more builds that I’d like to put together but I need to find a way to secure funding for them, perhaps sponsored links will arrive in the near future to help pay for these toys. For a short time I was a serious contender with the 3D benching with my platform until G80 broke onto the scenes. That bundle of joy arrived in late November/early December and it put every past card to shame. We are still waiting for R600 from ATI/AMD but I guess that will be a present from 2007, sorry 2006. However 2006 did bring my girlfriend back to me, Meagan arrived in the middle of December and I am glad to have her back in America. The end of 2006 was possibly my worst academic semester but I hope all will be well, 2007 had better have some academic gems otherwise I may not finish at Tech.
2006 was a good year but 2007 should be even better. I should be one step closer to graduating, own a car that I’ll enjoy driving, celebrate 2 years with Meagan, and hopefully get this place back on track with more publicity and involvement. I eagerly look forward to 2007 and January should be a fun month with the start of the semester, the final construction of my pulse jet(big fire!), the finishing touches put on my current phase cooler, and lots of unexpected events that will surely occur. Happy New Years everyone, celebrate it in style as this will only happen once. Cya 2006, Hello 2007.
Happy New Year!
