8000MHz Falls to ThuG OC Team

I don’t think these guys got the memo that Netburst is dead! After watching the 7.4GHz runs occur about a year ago I thought we had seen the end of high-clocking Netburst processors but there has been a sudden surge in retro-overclocking as chip prices have plummeted and motherboard technology has finally become powerful and fast enough to push the Netburst processors. ThuG OC Team just crushed the clockspeed world record with their godly Penitum 4 631. Godly describes this processor perfectly, 8GHz at 1.91 volts is a club shared by this single processor.

ThuG used a completely modified motherboard along with liquid nitrogen cooling to achieve these clocks and they are simply amazing. I am certain that with some more tweaking we will see 8200-8300MHz fall in the next few weeks if the chip doesn’t die from the excessive voltages. What makes this chip so unique is that it is capable of booting at -192 celsius! Most AMD processors refuse to boot below ~-30 celsius as the memory controller is very sensitive and most Intel chips will lock up around -120 celsius but this chip thrives on the cold. I would love to know what the 100% load temperatures were on the die, I can’t imagine how hot those transistors within the die were reaching at 8GHz, it is amazing that the chip didn’t just solder itself together. Excellent job ThuG and excellent job Intel for producing such intensive silicon. Next step is 9GHz but that may be pushing it a bit, perhaps 2.3 volts + liquid helium might do the trick but I fear the capacitors within the processor won’t like -2xx temperatures.
