HWBot.org Takes Over My Life
01.29.07 - 11:01pm
My name is Chris Morrell and I am an addict. I just can’t turn down a good competition and I just recently discovered another arena in which I can compete. HWBot.org happens to be this particular arena and it is precisely what the overclocking scene has needed. HWBot.org is the closest thing besides XS.org in regards to an overclocking database but HWBot.org actually rewards users for difficult merits. HWBot.org is quickly growing with total number of teams pushing past 200 and 2403 registered users.
What is HWBot.org?
Briefly HWBot is a huge ranking system that ranks various users against each other and awards points for the top players in their respective fields. Currently there are 14 various benchmarking applications that can be used to compete in with 6 3D benchmarks, 2 system benchmarks, and 6 processor benchmarks. Besides your position against the global records, the top 5 users for a particular processor or graphics card also receive points making it possible for obsolete hardware to net users some points. Naturally this ranking system will favor those users with better overclocking and tweaking skills however nothing will ever beat brute power. A great example of this is the multi-threaded wPrime32M and wPrime1024M tests that are currently dominated by the dual socket quad-core Xeons. However wPrime is a special example, SuperPi is still an overclock contest with 5+GHz processors occupying the top 40 spots. So what does HWBot.org mean to me and potentially to you guys?
To me this finally gives me a chance to compete against users of my caliber. I don’t have the budget to compete against the overclocking legends such as k|ngp|n and onepagebook however there are tons of areas that I can compete in with my more moderate system. For you guys I guess if you were interested you could join up and run the benchmarking applications, otherwise I guess you guys could cheer me on. Donations are more than welcome, someone’s gotta pay for all the silicon :)
Future Stuff
I spent most of my Sunday tweaking and benching my loaned 1.7GHz Celeron and I had a lot of fun with it, after I finish up my tests and classes tomorrow I’ll be strapping up the benching station again and push the clocks on the Lean Machine once again in hopes of getting at least a few points. I had high hopes of hitting 5GHz in the near future with a new processor that I had ordered from Buy.com however they are still leading me around in circles over replacing the Xeon3040 they sent me for the Xeon3060 that I paid for. I seriously need to find another source of revenue to pay for all the new toys I need, might have to whore out the website even further to try and generate some funds. Tomorrow night I’ll be making some minor changes to the website to finally implement the lasting changes that have been in the works for a week or more. I estimate around 11pm EST the site might drop for 10 minutes as I finalize some changes, if anything goes wrong you guys will know immediately. Now time to get back to studying, need to ace this test.
