Abit AB9 QuadGT Review

Friday, April 27th, 2007

I’ve been such a slacker lately and this review will show it. This interesting board has been in my posession for nearly 7 weeks and I have just gotten around to reviewing it. The QuadGT is Abit’s flagship P965 motherboard with all the features one would expect out of a premium motherboard. While the P965 chipset is hardly a premium chipset compared to the 975X or 680i chipsets, Abit has managed to work wonders with this chipset and create a most interesting motherboard.

Macbook Ram Upgrade 101

Friday, April 27th, 2007

I seemed to have forgotten that I have a blog, time to get back into the groove.. again. To kick things off lets have a little spurt of hardware articles. In this article I’m going to go over the quick and easy procedure of replacing/upgrading the ram modules in the Apple Macbook. I have the black Core Duo Macbook but I believe the chassis in the Core 2 Duo Macbooks is identical as the processors were socket drop-ins for the Core Duo. For those of you that like to get your hands just a little dirty in regards to computer hardware then this should be a walk in the park. The rest of you might find this interesting, I’d highly suggest purchasing Apple products, or any PC product in general, with the minimum ram configuration and then perform the upgrades yourself later. You could easily save yourself a couple hundred dollars, money that could be spent on better processors or video cards.

More Intel News

Tuesday, April 17th, 2007

Anyone here ever read The Worth of Women edited by Virginia Cox? 200 pages of boredom, 15th century feminism writers just aren’t my thing. Love women but jeez.. this is similar to reading a two day roundtable discussion about women’s rights, marriage, and abusive husbands. Anywho, there has been a stream of important stuff in the processor market but sadly it all relates to Intel. I swear AMD is working very hard at making their life a living hell, 6 months till K10s launch and not a single leaked benchmark, processor, or even a dead processor to oodle at. So time to rub some more salt into the already gaping wounds that Core 2 has caused.

No Place is Safe

Monday, April 16th, 2007

Of all the places for a mass shooting to occur, I wouldn’t have chosen Blacksburg, Virginia to be the place for 32 students to be shot dead on campus. Honestly I would have put Georgia Tech or Georgia State up higher on that list due to the urban enviroment but sadly today atleast one gunman went on a rampage on Virginia Tech’s campus. I hope that if there was another gunman that he is caught, it is times like these that make me wonder about America.

Review: Stealth 3D 2000

Saturday, April 14th, 2007

I went out to check the mail today and I noticed I had a package. I was very excited about this package, it contains my new SuperPi benching card. In the past I’ve benched with my 7900GTO which is a great card for 3D benches but it’s huge, expensive, and it’s rather risky having such an enormous card hanging off your board when you are doing sub-zero benching. I’d like to introduce you to my “brand new” Stealth 3D 2000 PCI VGA featuring the S3 ViRGE GPU.

Hardware Recommendations for April 2007

Wednesday, April 11th, 2007

We are nearly a third of the way through April and not a whole lot has changed. AMD’s R600 is still hiding in the closet, AMD’s Agena line has yet to be seen, Intel’s price cuts haven’t taken effect yet, and Nvidia hasn’t released a mid-range G8x video card yet. There haven’t been any new chipset launches either, hard drives haven’t made any revolutionary changes yet (solid state drives still cost an arm, a leg, two kidneys, and your liver), and powersupplies are just plain boring. With that said, let’s make this really quick.

My Birthday

Monday, April 9th, 2007

Today was my birthday and sadly it wasn’t anything special. It was just another day in the life of a Tech student, a test today, test tomorrow, and a few pages of homework due tomorrow. There was also a huge influx of messages on my Facebook wall, a thread on XS, and a few phone calls and texts but otherwise no celebration, no drinking, no birthday cake, and no presents. Perhaps I need to work on the excitement in my life, I need an all expense paid vacation to Bermuda or somewhere else tropical. So yup, that’s it, I’m 21 and stuck studying for an exam that will probably kick my butt tomorrow. Back to the books I go.

Blogging Manners

Monday, April 9th, 2007

One of my metrics to determine exactly what the state of the blogosphere is would be Techmeme.com. It’s a great website that gives me a broad look at the Internet beyond my regular Tech feeds. Most importantly it lets me know what is big in the non-Tech blog world and what huge things are going down that I should care about. I will openly admit that I could care less about the state of the blogosphere, I don’t have enough time to sift through the millions of splogs to find the few gems so I just stick to my little circle of friends but occasionally I spy things that just irk me. In this case it is this sudden rush/uproar over blogging manners and online commenting. The Internet is a free resource to be used by all but how far does this term “free” extend to the entire Internet?
