It is finally here! What am I talking about, why am I so excited? It’s the new wave of DX10 games for the PC! DirectX 10 hardware has been available for nearly a year now but there haven’t been many titles available that natively supported DX10. From August onwards we’ll have a stream of titles launching with DX9 and DX10 codepaths but today I give you a short preview of Massive Entertainments World in Conflict, a real-time strategy title with both DX9 and DX10 codepaths. I unfortunately don’t have the option to show you any juicy DX10 screenshots but I do have a few DX9 screenshots to whet your appetite.
I find that the longer I am without my Macbook the more resourceful I become in search of replacements for normal routines on my Macbook. Being a blogger I often include a picture or ten to break things up and I understand when people get frustrated with full-resolution images so normally I’d simply fire up Photoshop, shrink the image a bit, cut back some of the details, and voila a 35kb file that even those few select individuals on 56k don’t have to fret about. Now that I am temporarily stuck on Windows and not in the mood to go about installing Paint.net I have come upon Pixer, what I’d consider to be the quick and easy solution for all my photo-resizing needs. Pixer surely won’t be a permanent stand-in for Photoshop but if you need a quick photo resize or crop then Pixer will do the job just fine.
I love big airplanes, the bigger the better. Airbus has lately garnered lots of interest with it’s A380 superjumbo however I believe the 787 represents the actual future of air travel. Boeing has reportedly received 677 orders for this $162 million plane (CHEAP! $120 million for an F22 Raptor), booking production dates all the way into 2015. The first 787 won’t reach customers for another ~8 months but from the sounds of things Boeing is taking every step possible to minimize delays. The first 8 planes will be used for performance and fatigue tests so I’m sure we’ll have some fantastic videos of engineers bending the wings till they snap, I eagerly look forward to seeing them snapping airplanes in half. Considering how All Nippon Airways will receive the first 50 planes it’ll be a while till I have a chance to fly on one unless I decide to take a trip to Tokyo in the near future but I do look forward to seeing one of these birds in person.

A shoddy knock-off of the James Bond movie? Ironically a knock-off movie would most likely come from China however this time around I’m talking about products manufactured in China. Before I was even born lead had been recognized as a toxic substance and for the most part had been removed from every product utilizing it including bullets (we stepped it up and went to depleted uranium!). From what I hear lead was used in nearly everything including gasoline and most notably paint. The remark “Must have ate too many paint chips as a child” refers to lead poisoning showing just how much common knowledge this issue has been in the past. I’ve always enjoyed playing around with lead due to how dense and malleable it is but then again I take extreme precautions to keep from ingesting lead. Little children aren’t as aware of their environment and what can hurt them so everyone else watches out for their safety. Who-Sucks.com has compiled a rather lengthy list of items that have been recalled due to some sort of life-threatening aspect about them and I’m shocked at the amount that feature “contains dangerous amounts of lead”. Here’s a few good ones that I wonder how they got off the docks in California.
Well there is no surprise here, Apple has managed to sell enough iPhones that they beat everyones estimates. Over 500,000 iPhones sold with that number easily creeping past 700,000 in a week. I imagine in another two weeks they’ll break 1,000,000 iPhones sold and once they add Europe there will be another huge jump in numbers. Apple is definitely making bank with this product launch with an estimate $265 cost to manufacture each 8GB iPhone. Considering how that particular model is selling for $599, we are talking a $334 profit on each phone, lets say $300 to account for shipping and wages. That easily puts Apple with an additional $200+ million of capital within a week which is easily being reflected with Apple’s stock jumping a whopping $10 to $132.75. I suspect Apple’s stock will continue to creep up past $135 as they break 1 million phones sold and the begin to open up the European market.
Fireworks! In about 15 hours I’ll be watching hopefully one of the best firework displays in Atlanta if all goes to plan. Last year it rained ruining the BBQ, the fireworks, and the party afterwards, but this year should be balling. Fellow Americans, celebrate our independence! My fellow non-Americans, celebrate/curse the day America became an issue for the rest of you guys ;) Happy Fourth everyone!
Oh my.. I’ve played a good number of video games in my time however the Hitman series has a sentimental place in my heart due to the sheer class involved in the game. For those of you that haven’t played any of the Hitman games I’ll make this brief, you are an assassin, you kill people, and you are very good at what you do. The story is very deep, the “acting” is very well played out, and unlike most other shooters you actually become rather attached to Mr. 47. The movie itself will be just like another game in the Hitman series with Timothy Olyphant playing Mr. 47. I eagerly look forward to this movie hitting theaters on October 12th, if I could afford it you’d see me in a black silk lined suit, white dress shirt, and red tie and no mohawk during the premier. Now time to find a pair of Ballers so I can complete the ensemble. Below is the YouTube version of the trailer although I highly suggest checking out the 1080p trailer from Yahoo Movies.
