Review: Wolf King Warrior

No, this is not some sort of video game character, this is actually what I’d dare to say one of the best gaming keyboards I’ve set my fingers to. I don’t typically game much or for that matter do anything with computers besides bench hardware but when Mike at MotherBoardPro approached me with the opportunity to review the Wolf King Warrior, I hesitantly agreed. Over the last week I’ve played a few hours of Crysis and Counter Strike Source in an attempt to give this board a solid review and I’ve come to a conclusion.

Packaging

The packaging itself is rather secure with a molded plastic shell protecting the keyboard while making it visible prior to opening the package. The keyboard itself is a circular pad with 55 keys and a very business first demeanor. Unlike your typical keyboard, the Wolf King Warrior is a purpose built keyboard meant solely for FPS gaming. Goodluck hacking out an email or a coherent conversation with this board. Just resting your hand on the board though puts every key a gamer could need within either direct contact or within a short extension of a finger.

The Tests

I’m not going to lie, the first three hours playing with the Wolf King Warrior were some of the must troublesome hours I’ve ever spent playing Counter Strike. My fingers have memorized key locations. I’m used to keys being in certain locations so when I move a finger and I don’t get the correct response, confusion and death typically ensued. Since all the numerical keys are in a circle around the main WASD keys, this also requires a bit of re-training to get accustomed to. In the end though after roughly three hours of gameplay I was back to where I was in performance with a much more comfortable hand and arm posture. What isn’t mentioned is that the board is so small it lets you place your left and right hands at comfortable locations on the desk, I was primarily gaming in the same area that my larger keyboard solely takes up.

Long Term Impression

After nearly a week of use, I’ve managed to form a proper opinion on this keyboard. I wouldn’t say the keyboard has made me into a incredibly talented gamer but it has reduced the muscle stress from twitch gaming. Taking hourly breaks from gaming is still suggested but even after multiple hours of gaming with intermittent breaks my hands felt great. This keyboard could be very crucial at a lan or other event where either space is at a premium or muscle fatigue is a primary factor impeding your performance.

Conclusion

So for the casual gamer, is the Wolf King Warrior necessary? If you only play an hour or two of casual games a week I wouldn’t say this keyboard is a must, but anything past that and it might be in your better interests to look into purchasing one. Those of you that spend hours playing FPS titles or even RPGs like World of Warcraft will find the Wolf King Warrior to be immensely useful. For those older gamers with sensitive hands or individuals with larger hands may also find the Wolf King Warrior to be a more ergonomic keyboard to game with compared to your standard keyboards. It won’t make you shoot faster or dodge better, but it will help ease any fatigue generated from playing highspeed games.
