MTRON Unveils Next Generation SSD Controller
June 23rd, 2008 at 22:35 under News.MTRON, undoubtedly one of the highest quality SSD manufacturers, has unveiled a new SSD controller that nearly doubles performance of current performance SSDs. Solid state drives may be out of reach for normal consumers in normal applications but the rate at which innovations are occurring in the field will soon make high capacity high speed SSDs commonplace in the market. MTRON’s newest controller pushes the complexity by increasing the number of channels from 4 to 8 and thereby pushing maximum reads and writes to 260 MB/s and 240MB/s respectively for single level cell modules. SLC drives are still considerably more expensive than multi level cell modules but hopefully the advances made on this controller will extend over to MLC modules. MTRON is originally targeting military, aerospace, and medical applications for these drives however they will hopefully trickle down through industry after launch.

Ceiling Cat, of Ceiling Cat Industries fame, recently reviewed one of these with his Meowputer 3000. He said it was very fast but didn’t work too well when suspended from the ceiling for some reason. Hopefully the next version will receive the Ceiling Cat Industries stamp of approval. What are your thoughts Logan?

Ceiling Cat is quite the deceptive reviewer and actually masks his complete adoration for MTRON by faking disdain. It’s a most unusual practice and not easily noticed by those that don’t work close with Ceiling Cat. I gratefully am quite acquainted with Ceiling Cat’s actions and saw through this immediately.

@Paul - yes, that’s exactly right. Hopefully the next version fixes those ceiling issues.
@Chris - What in the hell?! Can’t Ceiling Cat can has some kats that don’t try to backstab him on the ceiling?
