Why PC Gaming Is Growing

Friday, May 9th, 2008

Contrary to everyone else clamoring about the death of PC gaming, I’m going to write quite the opposite. How can I confidently make such a statement? Well simply, I have faith in the casual gamer sitting in the office cubicle. Some offices might have a console in the break room, but every office is almost guaranteed to have a PC that is connected to the Internet. Through this portal many options are available to the casual gamer.

Review: Wolf King Warrior

Friday, April 4th, 2008

No, this is not some sort of video game character, this is actually what I’d dare to say one of the best gaming keyboards I’ve set my fingers to. I don’t typically game much or for that matter do anything with computers besides bench hardware but when Mike at MotherBoardPro approached me with the opportunity to review the Wolf King Warrior, I hesitantly agreed. Over the last week I’ve played a few hours of Crysis and Counter Strike Source in an attempt to give this board a solid review and I’ve come to a conclusion.

How PC Gaming Should Procede

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

After writing my last article on gaming which discussed what is killing the PC gaming industry, I had a moment of clarity. What if, wait for it, computers and consoles became one? In this beautiful mating of simplicity and complexity, perhaps a compromise could be reached in which consumers of all levels of technology literacy could have their cake and eat it too.

What Is Really Killing The PC Industry, An Opinionated Statement

Sunday, March 2nd, 2008

The PC industry is dying, this is certain. While many numerous important and well-paid individuals are quoting all sorts of studies and making very eloquent statements blaming piracy and a waning public interest, all their statements fail to point out one of the true reasons for this dying platform. Simply put, current PC games suck. To put this in more professional terms, the quality of video games and their subsequent maintenance has resulted in countless games being utter disappointments to the gaming community, resulting in a myriad of negative actions.

The $1500 Killer Gaming Rig

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

It’s that time again, another hardware recommendation! I slacked off earlier this month so I’m simply pushing forward a single rec aimed at you gamers out there. New to this though will be me assembling a similar system at Dell.com to compare and show whether it’s worth your time to hand-build your own PC. As per the title, I trimmed this build down to sub-$1500 which is a bit steep but at the same time it’s a computer that could easily last two years of mid to high-spec gaming and half a decade for casual gaming.

Electronic Arts Admits Error When Handling Developers

Tuesday, February 12th, 2008

It is a known fact that whenever EA swallows a company, rather than assist the developers to create a masterpiece, EA manages them into the ground resulting in lackluster titles. One of my favorite studios, Westwood Studios, was absorbed by EA and the resulting Command and Conquer games were so pathetic I chose to transport myself back to the 90’s so I could relive the glory days. Things may be turning over at EA though with EA CEO John Riccitiello admitting the error in their ways and the promise of reform. I appreciate this gesture but I hope they make do with their statement and we see a 180 degree switch in their management style. Now the next step needs to be a gradual shift towards increasing PC titles while maintaining current releases on consoles. Not related with EA but the lack of Halo Wars on the PC was like a gunshot through my gaming heart. RTS games belong on the PC and my lack of an Xbox 360 will force me to ignore this potentially awesome game. More PC Games please! Also in non-EA related news, Spore has an official launch date, celebrate and evolve!

Crysis Patch v1.1 Launched, Minor Improvements

Tuesday, January 8th, 2008

Brief update, from a few friends I’ve been told they are seeing minor speed updates with this new patch. The change-log mentions a lot of fixes so it sounds like the Crysis dev team has been swiftly hammering out the serious bugs along with including a few optimizations. This patch seems to focus primarily on Crossfire/SLI support, perhaps the next patch will somehow make the game playable at high settings in DX9 with a single card. The multiplayer still blows but the singleplayer is more than worth the install, especially after this patch.

Preview: Pirates of the Burning Sea

Monday, December 17th, 2007

I’m a MMORPG fiend, this is a given fact. I am also a Pirates of the Caribbean fanatic, so when you combine MMO’s with pirates I naturally get a bit rabid with desire. Pirates of the Burning Sea does a great job of satisfying most of my requirements for an MMO and I hope this review will properly expose all the unique traits of this oddball MMORPG. is currently under development by Flying Lab Software and will be published by Sony Online Entertainment, publisher of Everquest and Vanguard. PotBS will launch on January 22nd, 2007 but since December 5th the open beta has been underway. I myself have been playing through part of the closed beta and through most of the open beta so I hope I’ve got enough experience to give this game a proper preview.
