Here we are, the game I have been waiting for since I put down Diablo II in 2004. Hellgate:London is the closest thing I believe we’ll see to a Diablo III unless Blizzard decides to put down the cash cow that World of Warcraft has become. Hellgate:London, launched on October 31st, 2007 contains a decent blend of FPS and RPG elements that complement each other to form a rather addictive albeit repetitive style of gameplay. Flagship Studios launched Hellgate:London to coincide with Halloween but I wonder how the launch would have been had they been given a few more weeks. In addition to this written review there is a video review recorded by yours truly which is a short 11 minutes of me discussing a few attributes of the game. If you’d like to skip to this then click here or scroll to the bottom of the page.

The Internet is full of issues that clearly separate people. The most common splits I personally see are between fans of various platforms and products, most notably the Intel vs AMD fanboys. If you want to see people tear each other apart over their undying faith in their respective platforms then read through a few Intel vs AMD threads. Intel vs AMD however isn’t the focus of this article, the focus here is your typical console gamer. The Wii, Playstation 3, and Xbox360 all have strong followings with the PS3 and Xbox360 having what I’d consider to be the most fierce fanboys I’ve ever seen. While reading through a recent article over at Joystiq about the upcoming 65nm Xbox360 GPU shrink I saw some prime examples of angry console fanboyism and thought I’d share them so everyone could have a good laugh. Here are three excerpts from the comments, the entire thing was a bit lengthy but hilarious nonetheless. In regards to the actual article, Xbox360 owners rejoice as it’ll only take a year for a final RRoD solution to finally hit the market.

Lately I’ve been in a sort of gaming binge in which I pick up a game for a week, play the hell out of it and then drop it for something else. This is rather unusual for me as I usually know which game I want to play and I’ll play this game for months until something else manages to wrench me away. The one benefit of this cycle is that I’ve had the chance to experience some unique and different games. Today I’m going to take a look at Stranglehold, a blockbuster title with John Woo assisting in development and a crack cast of actors including Chow Yun Fat as Inspector Tequila Yuen. Just when I thought hilarious Chinese cop stereotypes wouldn’t cross the divide into gaming I was proven wrong, to much pleasure.

Need I say more? I hadn’t really heard much of this game until it seemed like the entire gaming section of the Internet blew up with glowing reviews of this game. Now after being bombarded with dozens of previews and reviews I have to say the game is growing on me and I haven’t even fired a demo up yet. I love video games for the ability to do what I cannot do normally without serious legal ramifications. Don’t know if that’s a proper reason to like video games but they are usually a fun way to blow stuff up, rampage through cities, and send thousands of robots/soldiers to their doom. BioShock looks to cover a lot of this interests of mine and I found a perfect video clip that illustrates these interests with great examples. I’m going to read a bit more into this game and see if it’s worth purchasing and if so you’ll see a Review up here. I just hope the PC version has slightly higher details than those exhibited in the video below as they look a bit dated to me. Guess I’ll have to purchase the game to find out.

It is finally here! What am I talking about, why am I so excited? It’s the new wave of DX10 games for the PC! DirectX 10 hardware has been available for nearly a year now but there haven’t been many titles available that natively supported DX10. From August onwards we’ll have a stream of titles launching with DX9 and DX10 codepaths but today I give you a short preview of Massive Entertainments World in Conflict, a real-time strategy title with both DX9 and DX10 codepaths. I unfortunately don’t have the option to show you any juicy DX10 screenshots but I do have a few DX9 screenshots to whet your appetite.

Spring has sprung and it has brought a fresh wave of new video game releases. Just this month Supreme Commander launched and it set a new standard for Real-time Strategy(RTS) games to follow. This month the latest installment in one of my favorite series will be launching, Command and Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars. Sadly Westwood Studios, the group that brought us the original CnC games, was shutdown in 2003 so I am very interested in seeing what Electronic Arts has managed to do to one of my childhood favorites.

I have had the pleasure of joining thousands of other players in the land of Middle Earth for the LOTRO stress-test event this past weekend. LOTRO has been in the beta stage for a month or so and I completely forgot to apply for it so I had to wait for an open event to check out this new MMORPG. I typically enjoy two gaming genres, RTS and MMORPG, so I’d like to say I have a fair amount of experience in judging these particular genres. This latest wave of games that will be hitting the market over the next few months are part of an entirely new generation of MMORPGs. The first generation consisted of founders such as Ultima Online and Everquest that set the groundwork. The second generation consisted of improved games that worked on improving the gameplay and lowering the learning curve and featured titles such as Asheron’s Call, Everquest 2, and World of Warcraft. This particular generation of games still had a few bugs in them and they had varying learning curves ranging from easy (WoW) to moderate (AC) to stupid complicated (EQ2). This next generation of MMOs are trying to break down the enormous time requirements while providing even more content and so far the prospects look good with Vanguard, Age of Conan and Lord of the Rings Online leading the pack. Well I think that’s enough history, time to dive into LOTRO.

Earlier I stated that Supreme Commander would be the end of the rest of my life and that pretty much sums up how addicting I have found this game to be. Between the eery similarities with Total Annihilation and the fantastic gameplay with shocking graphics, Supreme Commander has managed to deliver on all accounts with very few rough spots. Once I receive a copy of the actual public game I’m definitely going to do a more indepth review with more/better images and videos.
