Project Nissan 240SX: Day 6

Friday, May 16th, 2008

Today wasn’t so much a day as more a culmination of a few days. I’m just now getting caught up on all my work so I’ve had time to give this project some attention. I spent a few hours today calling around searching for replacement engines and suffice to say the search wasn’t very positive. In a desperation move I went to a Pull A Part knowing full and well that all the cars there would be stripped to the bone. Finding 4 240SXs on record, I began browsing the yard. The first one was an empty shell, the second one had a rusted shortblock, the third was partially dismantled, but the fourth was in perfect condition. Judging from the large marker writing on the windows, the owner had just graduated college so I suspect he tossed the car in search of a better one. Great news for me but unfortunately the block had 240k miles on it.

Project Nissan 240SX: Day 5

Friday, April 18th, 2008

Sorry about the lack of updates, I’ve been busy with a slew of things. I have made some serious progress both with Project 240SX and with benching. For the last few days I’ve been prepping the car for the engine to be pulled. There’s so many little things that have been holding me up that haven’t been post-worthy but tomorrow I should have some nice pictures.

Project Nissan 240SX: Day 4

Monday, April 14th, 2008

I didn’t get much done today as I was busy taking care of my non-240SX life. Managed to log about 2 hours of work today though and really cleared up a lot of the engine-bay in preparation for hauling the motor out. I’m still in the process of searching for a donor engine, decided to get the KA24DE as I figure if I’ve got to rip the engine and transmission out I might as well toss in a DOHC engine while I’m at it.

Project Nissan 240SX: Day 3

Sunday, April 13th, 2008

I got a little distracted today and didn’t quite follow my plan from yesterday to the T. I had initial hopes of removing both manifolds and the head but I quickly realized that was a big chunk of work. I started off by removing the fluids from the block and then removing the various components attached to the block. In doing so I also learned an important lesson, if wrench A plus right arm doesn’t work, wrench A plus right arm plus hammer works but wrench A + right arm but sledge hammer equals snapped bolt.

Project Nissan 240SX: Day 2

Sunday, April 13th, 2008

Today went off without a hitch. I had planned on doing all this on Day 1 but my evening was cut short for dinner/date and play. Saw two plays, was most interesting. Day 2 consisted of roughly 3 hours tearing into the engine pulling all the vacuum lines, wiring harness, radiator inlet pipe, and a slew of smaller components around the front of the engine.

Project Nissan 240SX: Day 1

Sunday, April 13th, 2008

I don’t often speak of it but I’m a huge car fan. To be more precise, I love small 2 seat rear wheel drive cars. The lighter and more powerful the better. In addition to those cars, I love the Japanese supercars from the 1990’s. In particular I’ve always loved the R33 Skyline, I feel it’s the ideal compromise of lightweight power like the R32 but with decent body sculpting and comfort like the R34. Since it’s damn near impossible to get an R33 in the US, I have been fixated upon the Nissan 240sx. On Friday I picked up my first 240sx and Project 240SX was officially started.
