The Unpublished Articles

Wednesday, June 11th, 2008

I would say for every two articles that I publish, one article never sees the light of day. I don’t often speak with other writers about their topic development and writing habits but I imagine all individuals have their own little rituals. My topics typically spawn from those moments when I blank out, absentmindedly staring at something. This does make for some awkward stares back, especially when I find myself staring at another person, but I don’t even realize it until I’m finished thinking. So after blanking out for a few seconds, what happens next?

A Week’s Worth of Progress Post-Robbery

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008

Woohoo! I think that just about summarizes my current emotions. It’s been one hectic week and I don’t think I’ve ever moved/coordinated/arranged/fixed so much stuff in such a short period of time. For the duration of the summer all my basic needs are taken care of, which is great news. I’m not going to lie, I’m still a bit skittish at times but I’m getting better. Doing my best at risk management also, no longer opening doors at 6am, not riding on public transportation with my benching equipment, and definitely not running late at night in sketch neighborhoods.

Gigabyte Spring Break & Plug-Fest 2008

Tuesday, May 13th, 2008

While on vacation over the last two weeks I had the chance to experience a rare event. Gigabyte, the computer component manufacturer I have been working with closely, invited me along with 15 other overclockers to test their upcoming P45 motherboards in Taiwan. I flew out of Atlanta on April 26th and landed at Taipei, Taiwan on the morning of April the 28th. Here’s what went down.

I am Leaving Overclocking/Gomeler.com

Tuesday, April 1st, 2008

It comes with a heavy heart for me to announce this, but I will be leaving Gomeler.com to pursue my lifelong dream of creating and managing a successful Web 5.0 startup. The board of directors for CeilingCatIndustries.com have thoughtfully appointed me as their new CEO, CFO, CAO, CDO, CZO, and 3DO. I don’t precisely know what all these titles mean, but I do know my new office and business cards will be extra large to reflect these changes in position. There was no job description with the job offer however under “PERKZ” was a list of 1 LOLCAT LAFF PER HOUR, 2 CHEEZBURGER PER MEAL, 6 VACASHUN DAIS PER WEEK. I am as stumped as you are but I figured I can only be moving up in the world. In preparation for my new position I have begun reading many books on how to run a startup company. I’ve got this sinking feeling that I’ll be drastically overwhelmed but I’m not worried, Ceiling Cat Industries sounds like a sweet place to work at. I think that’s about it, so long computers and cascades, hello creativity and Web 5.0!

There will be a live auction held next Saturday in Atlanta at 11am for all the hardware associated with Gomeler.com. Included in the auction will be two 2-stage cascades, multiple dry ice tubes, half a dozen motherboards, multiple memory kits, and a slew of processors. All proceeds will go to the charity of the buyers choice. I will however be keeping my Crucial 10th Anniversary sticks, handpicked D9GMH is a keeper, even if it doesn’t work anymore. Hope to see you all there!

Thank You Gigabyte!

A month back or so I was one of the winners in Gigabyte’s Overclocking Competition. For the last month or so I’ve been communicating with Gigabyte’s Public Relations and just last week I received the first portion of my prize for efforts. A rather large box arrived and shaking it like a Christmas present hinted at a few articles bouncing around inside. This box had the check for $2,000, a very nice Omega pen with Gigabyte on it, a CD case, and a spiffy light jacket with Gigabyte on it. Unfortunately my X48-DQ6 was delayed till April but on the flip side I have a few more surprises up my sleeve and the X48-DQ6 was bumped up to an X48T-DQ6. Looks like I’ll be DDR3 shopping sooner than expected, no problem though with so much on the market now. I had a great time with this competition and I hope this is the beginning of a great relationship. That sounded oh so cheesy, but I do. Below is the prize box along with my first surprise. Thanks Gigabyte!

Atlanta Overclockers Club/Meet/Thing

Sunday, February 10th, 2008

So this is sort of what I’ve been working on lately. Inspired by some of the great overclocking legends of the past and present, I’ve decided to attempt to professionalize this hobby of mine. Living in Atlanta, I figured with a few million people within a day’s drive there must be a few people interested in meeting up to bench some hardware and my search has yielded some results. I have registered AtlantaOverclockers.com which will eventually become our accomplishment log and launch-point and I sure hope this goes somewhere. I apologize for being a bit slack around here but rather than simply dip my toe into the CCNA material I’ve decided to plunge headfirst and it’s been a shock to say the least. I’ve never felt so un-prepared for something, even those Calculus III tests and finals pale in comparison but it’s a great feeling. It’s humbling being schooled by a book, if it and I had conversations it would be straight from The Karate Kid. I’ve got some more hardware coming in for some reviews so fear not as the future is bright but first I must take care of financial business. Even overclocking gurus must work so tomorrow I’ll be trawling Atlanta in search of a sweet secondary job to bank up some funds for my upcoming trip to California. After briefly discussing it with Paul, we’re almost certain we’ll be making a Spring Break trip to California which will be a well-timed trip for some networking. Well that is all, happy Valentine’s day readers, here’s my date.

Almost Done With Redesign!

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

I’m getting close to being done with this particular redesign. I know there isn’t much impressive about it but I needed a change and using a pre-built theme just feels like cheating. I still have a few things to add like my 9rules leaf and my ASO Orange but I have a list and will attempt to follow it with the utmost attention to detail. Tomorrow I’ll spend the majority of the day on the phone calling up companies trying to secure some press samples so wish me luck. I’ve set my sights on a pair of AMD HD3850 video cards, I think I smell a 3DMark record in the air. Let me know what you think about the site and drop and suggestions you have to offer.

Update!

Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008

Spent the better part of the last two days tinkering with the motherboard I’m reviewing. Had a great New Years, hope you all did as well. If you take a peek down at the footer you’ll notice I’ve changed things up a bit. There’s still a bunch of work to be done but I’m slowly making progress. Next up will be a nice area where I can list my current testbed and planned upgrades along with sponsors. I kind of want to get rid of the Google Adsense column, time to start scouting out for a better advertising service. After I finish up the footer then it’s on to the sidebar, going to fix up the search bar, author information, simple navigation, and maybe even a Twitter update. Might finish up the footer tonight, busy balancing learning Ruby on Rails with daily chores and hacking up this site. Now back to baking cookies and learning Ruby.
